In this episode Andrew is joined by a new voice, Dr. Jonathon Settle. Together they break down the evidence surrounding DDP-4 inhibitors. Do these drugs cause heart failure? If so do they do it in everyone or just specific patient populations? The main picture for this podcast is from the supplemental data in the EXAMINE with Alogliptin this is Figure S2 "Cumulative Kaplan-Meier Estimates of the Time to the First Adjudicated Occurrence of the Secondary End Point (cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, stroke and urgent revascularization for unstable angina". As you can see the line for Alogliptin and the placebo line are so close it takes a strong telescope to tell where they differ! So in the end is this drug a total bust or does it play a role? Listen to the end and you just might find out who they would use this medication for!
